From
the Daily Tribune - Lofts on Center are hot sellers
ROYAL
OAK - "Look at this! Wow ..." Jennifer Strong said to husband Corey
as they walked around an oversize closet at the new SkyLofts MarketSquare model
on Center Street on Friday. The model is apparently wowing the crowds because
just six days after it opened, 13 new SkyLofts were already purchased. The development
has 88 units ranging from $200,000 to $500,000 and 900 to 2,500 square feet. John
Knaus, SkyLofts sales manager, said even cold, rainy weather didn't deter people
from stopping by and buying. "It rained on Saturday, then there was
a Red Wings game, so it was like everything shut down," Knaus said. "But
we're selling." He added that the new SkyLofts, which closely resemble
their sibling development on Main Street, started selling faster even than the
original. The first SkyLofts recently finished construction to become the first
downtown condominium development in Royal Oak. Made of concrete and glass, SkyLofts
changed the look of Royal Oak's downtown and brought a bevy of new businesses
including hip restaurants, retail and a Barnes & Noble megastore to the south
side of downtown. This second development looks much like the first and
is just as important in it own way, city officials say. Many hope SkyLofts MarketSquare
finally pulls downtown development down 11 Mile Road. The new SkyLofts will
replace Select Inn on 11 Mile, east of Main. The $22 million complex will
offer the same loft-style living as the first SkyLofts with hardwood floors, gas
fireplaces, eight-foot-high windows, balconies, exposed pipes and deluxe kitchen
amenities like high-end appliances, furniture-style cabinets and granite countertops... previous
